Passport – Communicating the Voice

Melbourne four-piece Passport are showing signs that they are about to burst into one of the most exciting indie bands to watch in Australia in 2012.

Having formed at school, Passport have already toured down the eastern seaboard in support of Little Red, and are in the process of laying down tracks for their debut EP. The notable handicap hitting the band in 2012, is that their band mate Lakyn Heperi has been stolen by Channel 9s show The Voice and placed in the care of Joel Madden.

Regardless, Passport are currently occupying the Triple J Unearthed charts with their track ‘Communicate’. In a unique manner, ‘Communicate’ opens with a cool tune off the xylophone before the drums kick in and finally a catchy little guitar riff that continues throughout the track. Heperi’s vocals are heavy, emotional and crystal clear in conveying a lost and melancholy mood. I love the Calypso feel to the track and the intricate guitar work is splendidly done.

I can’t wait to hear more from Passport, as this track has me mesmerised. With The Voice due to end in the next month, and on the back of Heperi’s new-found national popularity, expect this band to soar out of the blocks and onto your radio.
