Chela – Synth Popstress

The self proposed ‘oriental disco heathen goddess’ known as Chela has shot out of the blocks in 2012 receiving airplay for her catchy indie electro tune ‘Plastic Gun’, quite a feat considering the band only played their first gig in April.

‘Plastic Gun’ has these synth soaked keyboard melodies, pumping beats and a catchy guitar overlay which combines with the incredible vocals of Chela to really take off. Its a fun track with a distinct 90s disco vibe and has a style about it that reminds me of a less rocky Ladyhawke. The vocals by Chela are also a highlight, being powerful, silky smooth and riding the music well. It is a track that comes together well and is a perfect backing for a roadtrip, exercise, or simply to get the party started.

Chela’s vocals have also been used by other bands featuring most recently on LA band Goldroom’s track ‘Fifteen’ which you can find here. Although not touring at the moment, expect some big things to come from Chela in the future, and in the meantime download and enjoy her tune ‘Plastic Gun’.
