Battleships – Take Your Rest

Battleships - Newcastle

Sydney outfit Battleships have re-emerged onto the scene with a fantastic new tune called ‘Take Your Rest‘.

If brooding indie is a sound you love, then ‘Take Your Rest’ is going to blow your mind.  The sharp haunting voice of Jordan Sturdee fills this track with rich emotion, that is only enhanced by the earthy percussion and thick viscous wall of guitar snf allows this song to soak into you.  It is a fantastic follow up to their mini-album last year that featured the singles ‘Your Words’ and ‘In Retrospect’, and gives us a good taste of what to expect on their incumbent debut album.

Covers – The Automation

Covers are a sweet new band out of Melbourne who are certainly on the rise if their tune ‘The Automation’ is anything to go by.

Covers have unleashed what is easily one of the most unique tunes of 2013 in ‘The Automation’. It is like the prefect lovechild of an awkward threesome between Caribbean pop, surf rock, and retro garage. So in short, its pretty freaking cool, it has guitar licks plenty, groovy bass and rolling punchy beats. My ears love it, and yeah, get on this track. Its rad.

Gossling – Harvest of Gold

The eternally sweet vocals of Gossling have made another appearance, with the singer dropping latest single ‘Harvest of Gold’.

‘Harvest of Gold’ is a lot less synthy than previous single ‘Never Expire’. Once again Gossling’s strong, powerful and uniquely recorgnizable vocals from the crux of a song that leaves you in two minds as to whether relax to its chilled vibes or to slow dance in the sun. The rich backing instrumentation is a near perfect conglomeration of folk and low-fi electronica, and provides the perfect platform for Gossling’s vocals to soar. ‘Harvest of Gold’ the album, drops later this week.

Dustin Tebbut – The Breach

Dustin Tebbut

Dustin Tebbut has released the emotional and brooding track, ‘The Breach’,

Dustin’s combo of rich percussion, soulful voice and mellow guitar sees him slide onto the scale somewhere between Bon Iver and The Paper Kites, with ‘The Breach’ having that natural ability to melt ears and instill emotion in each listener. Its a phenomenal tune, and has been on repeat in my head over the past month. Needless to say, I cannot wait to catch the live performance as Dustin Tebbut tours the country with the notable Boy and Bear, a tour that is bound to earn him countless of new fans.

Holy Holy – Impossible Like You

Holy Holy

Holy Holy have just announced a string of tour dates, and I for one cannot wait to catch ‘Impossible Like You‘ live.

Holy Holy have managed to capture the essence of brooding thoughtful indie pop like no other band has this year. ‘Impossible Like You’ fills you with this inherent feeling of wonder and total encapsulation as the lyrics and music intertwine to tell a beautiful story of the girl who was always a little out of reach. So dreamy, so mellow, yet so damn infectious and catchy.

Having been enjoying this golden gem of an indie tune for several months now, and having interviewed Matt Redlich, the bands producer, word on the street is these guys are going to drop one hell of an EP on us. I cannot wait. Tour dates below.

The Jezabels – The End

Sydney’s premier brooding pop band the Jezabels has returned with a new single ‘The End’.

The Jezabels have a knack of always making their new singles feel like they were overdue, probably due to my own personal obsession with them. ‘The End’ almost sees a return to the Jezabels of EPs gone, being a little heavier and darker than their debut album, but nonetheless endlessly enjoyable. It is also the first taste of their impending but yet unnamed album set for release early next year. Lets hope for a couple more singles before then!
