Workaholics King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have announced the February release of their new LP Oddments, their fourth album in two years.
The first yeasty oddment comes in the form of the fuzz washed and ultra trippy single Vegemite. If you live outside of Australia you might not like it, but that’s probably only because you don’t understand how to enjoy it. It doesn’t scream out commercial success but it is a perfect example of KG&TLW not giving many fucks, and coming up with something totally original. Stu Mckenzie has said it’s the most literal song he’s ever written, because he really loves Vegemite, and I guess it’s hard to argue with the lyrics “it’s strong as hell and black as night.” The track recorded at Mckenzies parents house on an out of tune piano is playful and upbeat, and almost impossible to define using a single genre. It’s best you just have a listen, and watch the very ‘Vince Noir’ film clip.
